On Thursday 26th June the Spanish Chamber of Commerce held the seminar “Smarter Airport Experience” in collaboration with London City Airport (LCY), Patron of the Chamber.
On this occasion, Igor Urra, our Secretary General welcomed the attendees on behalf of the institution and introduced the speaker of the seminar: Matthew Hall, Chief Operating Officer, who was accompanied by Anne Doyere, UK Sales Manager from LCY.
To begin the session, Matthew Hall introduced the main topic “Innovation in a challenging Europe”. He explained that LCY is working hard to match customer expectations and he pointed out the importance of “The Internet of Things” to reach this objective. He told attendees that any company offering a service should aim to exceed customers’ expectations.
After this introduction, Matthew Hall showed attendees different statistics that prove that internet and social media are essential in today’s life and even more important in their activity as an airport because almost all the regular passengers who travel through LCA have a smartphone. Furthermore, he explained how passengers can benefit from using the LCY app which allows travelers to know the exact status of their flights. Matthew also gave an example to show the different utilities of this app.
For instance, if a passenger is having a coffee at the airport coffee shop and the boarding gate is about to close, the app will send him a message to inform him about this and how long it will take him to get from where he is to the gate.
Expanding on this, he explained how long a normal journey from LCA usually takes, with the average time from the check-in desk to the boarding gate being 20 minutes. Also, thanks to the connection with the DLR (Docklands Light Railway) a passenger can be in Westminster in 25 minutes, with shorter journey times to Bank (22 minutes) and Canary Wharf (14 minutes).
Finally, he highlighted the importance of listening to airlines’ and customers’ feedback in order for an airport to be successful. He ended the session by sharing with attendees a map that encompassed the ambitious projects that LCY expects to carry out by 2023.
After the session, all attendees had the opportunity to network, ask questions to Matthew Hall and Anne Doyere and exchange their impressions and ideas about the points covered in the talk while enjoying some breakfast.
