On Wednesday 2th April an evening talk “International Expansion: Understanding and Mitigating Risks” took place, organised in collaboration with Control Risks, a global risk consultancy member of the Chamber.
The event, hosted at the impressive Control Risks premises overlooking the Thames, was chaired by Mr. Simon Adamsdale, Director of Control Risk. Simon welcomed attendees and introduced the experts that would be speaking on relevant areas and different case studies during the session.
To start with, Mr. Adamsdale informed that the Control Risk mission is to enable its clients to succeed in complex or hostile environments by supporting them with information on three key risk areas: political, integrity and security.
David Lea, Senior Business Analyst and expert on managing business risks in Spain took the floor after Simon to cover the current situation in Spain. He analysed different aspects related to the economic and political situation, highlighting flaws but also strengths.
After that, it was the turn of Ms. Marcela Londoño, Senior Consultant Analyst, who went over the situation in Mexico and Colombia and the solutions available to companies and individuals interested in further exploring these markets and/or investing in them.
Finally, Emily Richardson Senior Consultant specialist in the Middle East, talked about managing business risks in Iraq. She pointed out the importance of an accurate analysis in order to avoid taking risks related to bribery and corruption, amongst others.
After that, Simon chaired the Q&A session that followed the talk. This was highly anticipated as the areas and topics covered generated a great deal of interest among attendees, who took the opportunity to ask the experts.
Once the Q &A session was over, participants and speakers alike could network and share their opinions over a glass of wine and some nibbles while enjoying the breathtaking views over the Thames.
The event provided an opportunity for attendees to network.
