For this next virtual panel discussion, we are excited to be partnering once again with Chamber member Cripps Pemberton Greenish, a law firm which specialises in providing practical and commercial advice to businesses and entrepreneurs. To begin the session, Rhona Darbyshire who leads the employment team at the firm will discuss managing the return of employees to work. Her talk will include practical tips as well as a summary of the latest Government guidance for UK businesses and its associated challenges and pitfalls, including:
- health and safety and risk assessments
- home working and flexible working patterns
- travel to work, childcare and equality issues
- data protection and privacy implications of testing or health monitoring
- refusals to work
Adam Osieke, a senior associate in the real estate team at Cripps, will then discuss some of the issues that could test the landlord and tenant relationship as we enter the “new normal” way of office working. For example, who ultimately pays for the cost of modifying the common areas of the building so that they are Covid-secure? If the tenant wants to carry out modifications to its own area of the building, will the landlord have to give permission first? And what happens to those alterations and modifications at the end of the lease – can the landlord insist they are removed at the tenant’s cost?
There will then be time for a Q&A with both speakers, which will be moderated by Salim Somjee, a partner in the M&A team at Cripps.
