Estate and Inheritance Tax (IHT) planning is all about getting the right balance between having access to your money when you need it, and leaving a protected legacy for future generations, whilst minimising tax. As a UK resident or an expatriate living in the UK, one of the most important financial tasks you have is to start planning how and to whom you will leave your assets. IHT is the tax paid on an estate when the owner of that estate dies, and it becomes especially complicated when it comes to expat finances.

However, there are many ways to legally mitigate a significant amount of tax in the UK, if careful planning and independent financial advice are applied throughout the process. It can be a complex journey, involving IHT and the succession laws of more than one country, but it is vital to have a solid estate plan in place so your heirs can minimise their tax bill at an already difficult time, and provide you with peace of mind that they and your estate will be looked after.

Join us for our first in-person seminar post-pandemic, which we are delighted to be holding in collaboration with Chamber members Westminster Wealth Management, to learn more about estate and IHT planning. The topics discussed will be as follows:

    • Rules in the UK – this is how IHT works
    • Problems that may arise, and how to resolve them
    • How does it work if you are Spanish?

During the session you will have the opportunity to ask any questions that you might have to the speakers, and a networking breakfast will take place following the seminar.

Risk warnings – The Financial Conduct Authority does not regulate estate planning, tax advice, wills or trusts. Information is based on our current understanding of taxation legislation and regulations which is subject to change.

He really enjoys meeting new people, learning what’s important to them and developing professional relationships over time. When Scott asks his clients about their goals, he doesn’t just want to know the bare minimum so he can ‘work out the numbers’. He’s interested in the details because financial decisions cannot be made in silos and cares deeply about the outcomes in every aspect of his clients’ lives – present, future as well as their children’s futures too.

His style is very much inclusive, comprehensive and collaborative. Scott is passionate about arming clients with knowledge and helping them feel secure in their financial decisions. An example he can give is trying to get clients as enthusiastic about pensions as he is! Every client is unique and every client’s financial journey is different which keeps what he does interesting. The successes that his clients enjoy due to the work they’ve done together is extremely fulfilling.
